This is a resin kit with full interior. I brought the kit to the September meeting. I will be building tis kit while my repaired shoulder continues to heal. The Last Mooring diorama of the USS Arizona in 200 scale will be postponed until I can handle the larger base and parts. i will build this kit as a sort of diorama as I plan to display in on a dock much like it was sketched in a famous drawing during the Civil War. The actual submarine was found through the efforts of the well known author Clive Cussler and was raised in 2000. It was brought to Charleston, SC where it is being restored and preserved.
This was the first submarine to sink an enemy warship, the USS Housatonic, a federal sloop of war on blockade duty on 17 February 1864. She was the world's first attack successful submarine.
I have so far done teh cut away of part of the upper hull leaving the riveted frame in place on that side. I have washed the resin with paint thinner and then with dish washing detergent to clean off the mold release chemicals which would otherwise resist gluing and painting. After studying the more than 30 pages of instructions, I am ready to start painting and assembling.
I'll make further posts as I can.
